Hilo’s Ho‘okahi captured the under-14 title recently at the Kirk Banks soccer tournament on Oahu, beating Aiea in the final to finish 6-0 as the only coed team in its age group.
Hilo’s Ho‘okahi captured the under-14 title recently at the Kirk Banks soccer tournament on Oahu, beating Aiea in the final to finish 6-0 as the only coed team in its age group.
Max Adolf led Ho‘okahi with 10 goals, Tyler Waltjen compiled five and Kiana Serrao posted three. Also scoring at the tournament were Joshua Rosario (two) and Skyler Chong (one), Alonso Hernandez (one) and Lacey Shiigi (one).
Coach Jay Fernandez lauded Shiigi, Chong, goalkeeper Roen Gariando, Momi Jeschke, Lauree Ann De Mattos and Caleb Smeraglia for their defensive efforts, and praised midfielders Waltjen, Rosario, Jon DeMotta, Craig Okahara-Olsen, Mari Camacho and Alonso Hernandez for their ability to generate and finish scoring chances. At forwards, Hernandez said, Adolf and Serrao were tough to handle because their skill and determination.
